From Action Together New Jersey, some quick reasons why NOT to support offshore drilling:
- there isn't enough oil off our coasts to justify the pollution risk;
- over 130,000 marine animals would be harmed, threatened or killed by the seismic testing alone, including endangered North American Right Whales;
- the American Wind Energy Association estimates conservatively that 4,000 GW of untapped offshore wind power exists off American coasts - we could build wind turbines instead, put people to work, and gain the energy independence without the pollution;
- start to finish, drilling for oil offshore would exacerbate human-accelerated climate change.
