DEMAND THAT CONGRESS PROTECT OUR HEALTHCARE AND #REJECTREPEAL
Mark your calendar: Wednesday, April 19 is a day of action to Protect Our Care. This week, Trump threatened to withhold critical funding that makes health care more affordable for millions of people unless Democrats came to the table to repeal the Affordable Care Act. The last time the Republicans tried to do this, millions of Americans stood up to say No. We must continue to put the pressure on our members of Congress to reject repeal and put the health of millions above partisan politics. TAKE BACK THE HOUSE CONTINUES IN GEORGIA
The Special Election for Georgia’s 6th Congressional District is Tuesday, April 18. This one is winnable: While Trump carried Kansas’ 4th Congressional district by 27 points, Trump won in this Georgia district by only 1.5 points.

A REFLECTION ON KANSAS Nobody expected Tuesday’s special election to be even remotely competitive, but it was. In 2016 Trump won Kansas's Fourth Congressional District by 27 points; Mike Pompeo, who vacated the seat to become Trump's CIA director, won by more than 30. But on Tuesday night Estes beat unknown Democratic candidate, James Thompson, by only 7 points - that's a 20-point swing.
Even Breitbart commentator “Virgil” says of the race, “Okay, so what can Republicans do to improve their prospects in 2018? Aside from all the usual injunctions about not being complacent, here’s a Virgilian thought: Find a better issue than healthcare.” We couldn't agree more. Keep your members of Congress on speed dial, make noise at your town halls this week and next, and don’t throw away your “Save Obamacare” rally signs just yet...
DIAL CONGRESS RESISTANCE TECHNOLOGY
The truth is, calling your members of Congress works better than any other form of action. Now a new piece of technology is out: Dial Congress. Dial Congress is an extension for Google Chrome that turns news stories, Wikipedia pages, and Google searches into a congressional phone directory. From Slate, "If you’re reading an article that mentions any member of the House or Senate, the browser extension will highlight that person’s name. If you mouse over, say, a reference to Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the phone number for her Washington office pops up on your screen."
The point: keep calling. And if you want to make it easier, check out Dial Congress.
ATTORNEY GENERAL JEFF SESSIONS DISMISSES THE COMMISSION ON FORENSIC SCIENCE.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions declared this week that he will not renew the National Commission on Forensic Science when its current term expires on April 27. This Commission is critical to maintaining quality and fair forensic guidelines in our national and local criminal justice system. Cutting the Commission would be bad for our criminal justice system, regardless if you are on the side of the state, defense, or victims. RISE's Civil Rights and Civil Liberties working group is putting together more detailed information. Here are two good summaries from PBS and the Washington Post.
ITS TIME TO COMMENT. HELP SAVE THE EPA
Yesterday, EPA Chief Scott Pruitt called for an “exit” from the Paris agreement, an agreement endorsed by nearly 200 countries to fight climate change. This marks the first time since its signing that such a high ranking US official has rejected this critical agreement. {source}
It's more important than ever that we stand up to protect the Environmental Protection Agency. The government is calling for public comment on all existing regulations in order to identify items to be replaced, repealed, or modified. It's time to tell the government your opinion, by commenting here. Need help crafting a comment? Email us and our policy experts will lend you a hand.
