Oppose the Nomination of Pro-torture Lawyer to Top Transportation Position Steven Bradbury is the nominee for General Counsel at the Department of Transportation. During his tenure with the Bush Administration, he infamously wrote three memos justifying the use of torture as an interrogation technique, a position which has since been rejected by Congress and the Supreme Court. Whether you care about transportation, civil rights, the environment, or something else, Bradbury will likely poised to make a decision on that issue. Contact your Senators to oppose Bradbury, whose lack of judgment and moral character are antithetical to everything we stand for. Read more here.

Trump Administration Voter Fraud Commission Requests Voter Rolls from All 50 States
Kris Kobach, head of the administration's Election Integrity Commission has written to all 50 states requesting their voter-roll data, including the name, address, date of birth, party affiliation, last four Social Security number digits and voting history back to 2006 of every voter in the state. State responses to the administration's request for voter roll data varies from compliance to dismissal.
The commission was created last month to "investigate alleged acts of voter fraud" based on Trump's claim that "3 million to 5 million undocumented immigrants voted illegally in the 2016 election." {source}
The major concern is that the shared data will be used for purposes of voter suppression. There are also serious concerns about data security and privacy that come with releasing personal information of registered voters, including the worry that the commission will use the rolls to target non citizens.
What you can do: Contact your Secretary of State and ask them to reject the request.
Understanding Dodd-Frank: Why Financial Regulation is Important and How to Protect It The Dodd-Frank Act is under threat. Republicans have long targeted the act, which was passed to strengthen and reform the US banking and financial system after the global financial crisis of 2008. Now they're acting to weaken it. In May, the House of Representatives passed the Financial CHOICE Act, which repeals most of Dodd-Frank, and last week the Treasury released a summary of part of its proposal to weaken Dodd-Frank, which isn't as extreme as the Financial CHOICE Act, but still will have a large effect.
We expect that any bill that's debated in the Senate will look more like the Treasury proposal than the Financial CHOICE Act, but we don't know that for sure yet. What we do know, though, is that Republicans will try to push through changes to Dodd-Frank that Wall Street wants, even if it makes another catastrophic financial crisis more likely.
Financial regulation can be confusing; this explainer is intended to demystify it and to arm you with a framework and context to understand the different proposals. The fight over Dodd-Frank repeal will be one of the big fights in the Senate this year. More detailed information from the RISE Stronger Economy & Jobs Policy Working Group is available here.
EPA Axes 38 Science Advisers, Cancels Panel Meetings
It emerged last week that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will not renew the appointments of 38 members of the Board of Scientific Counselors (BOSC) whose first term will expire in August. The BOSC advises the EPA's Office of Research and Development on scientific research. The office's leader, Acting Assistant Administrator Robert Kavlock, delivered the news in emails to BOSC members last week. These 38, combined with the nine advisors dismissed in May, mean that only 11 advisors remain, with no committee chairs among them. This action led the Office to cancel all planned meetings until new appointments can be made. Typically, first term advisors are renewed for a second three-year term, and the move worries many concerned about the quality—and the future—of EPA science. Peter Meyer, an economist who resigned in protest last month, recently said in an interview with the journal Science that "This says to me that they do not want objective science."
The EPA has put out a call for nominations positions on its Board of Scientific Counselors (BOSC) and its Scientific Advisory Board (SAB). Learn more here, and nominate yourself or or a colleague for the BOSC here or the SAB here. Note that the deadline for BOSC nominations is this Friday, June 30.
