We shared a lot of resources on gun violence prevention last week. Today, we wanted to make sure we shared information on those groups working on gun violence issues in marginalized communities. This is a long post, so please bare with us.
Existing/New Collaborative Efforts:
Camp Solutions + Peacemaker Partnership Trainings- in 2018 we will host two types of trainings: Camp Solutions and the Peacemaker Partnership Trainings. Camp Solutions will be 4 (potentially more) large scale 1.5 day advocacy trainings camp for ANYONE who wants to become an advocate on gun violence prevention policy, organizing, or running for office. These free trainings will include tracks on civic engagement, leadership development, and an electoral lens of advocating for gun reform. We are working with some of the folks who developed the Camp Wellstone model and will have a curriculum that is a take away for people who attend. If you are interested in co-hosting or partnering with us, please let me know- we are finalizing the cities this week.
We will also continue to host Peacemaker Partnership Trainings specifically focused on training advocates already involved in gun violence prevention advocacy as a part of the Peacemaker Partnership Campaign that many of you are working with us on to help implement proven strategies to reduce gun violence in communities of color. We will also send around information on the cities we will host those trainings soon.
Black and Brown GVP Organizers- Erica Ford has made a call for people who identify as black or latino to come together to work on our collective gun violence prevention work. If you or someone who works in your organization would like to be a part of this effort or learn more- please email me directly, there is a call scheduled for early next week on Tuesday.
City-Based Weekly Calls: In March we will start regional policy calls to talk about work happening on the ground in counties and cities in regions across the country. Each of the calls will have a policy maker or their staff and work that is happening locally that folks can get involved in. We will also be working with CAP and others to make sure these calls are not duplicative of national calls already happening.
GVP Mapping- We have been working the last few months and are putting the final touches on a interactive action map that will contain information on work that is happening around the country including an interface that will let people (through a little vetting) add their daily, weekly, or monthly action to prevent gun violence. We are reaching out to work with folks from GVP groups including GVPedia and others to collect information as to not be duplicative.
This will be open source to also capture some of the planned actions you may have seen including various marches since the mass shooting at Parkland. If you or your group is interested in adding information please let me know + we will have a link to send around middle of this week for folks to check out.
CJRC Events:
